Two companies have showed interest to build cable car services to Kailashnath Mahadev in Chittapol VDC of Bhaktapur, targeting domestic and foreign tourists.Both the companies plan to link Kathmandu Fun Park to one of the tallest statues of Lord Shiva on the ridge of Sanga Bhanjyang. They have applied for registration at the Department of Industry (DoI).
Kailashnath Mahadev Cable Car plans to link Kathmandu Fun Park with Kailashnath Mahadev by building a 900-meter cable car line. The company is promoted by Bharati Giri and Kamal Jain. While Giri is the owner of Kathmandu Fun Park, Jain erected the statue of Lord Shiva. He also owns an ayurvedic hospital in the premises of Kailashnath Mahadev.
The company lodged its application at the department on July 7. The total cost has been estimated at Rs 25 million. It has also received permission to inject Rs 25 million of foreign investment in the project.
Jain is an Indian citizen.
Likewise, Shiva Darshan Cable Car plans to build a 350-meter cable car line, linking Wards No. 2 and 5 of Chittapol VDC, Bhaktapur. The company is also eyeing two important tourist sites - Kathmandu Fun Park and Kailashnath Mahadev.
The company filed application for registration at the department on June 26.
Ram Sharan Chimoriya, spokesperson for DoI, said the department has asked both the companies to furnish permission documents from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation.
Speaking to Republica, Jain said his company joined hand with Kathmandu Fun Park to make integrated effort for brining more visitors to both the sites. “We plan to complete the project within six months of getting permission,” he said, adding that they aim to serve 310,000 persons annually.
Shiva Darshan Cable Car has estimated budget of Rs 70 million for the project. Hari Adhikari, one of the promoters of the company, said they aim to attract people in the Kathmandu Valley for cable car ride and to link Kathmandu Fun Park with Kailashnath Mahadev temple premises. The company aims to serve 346,000 passengers annually.
Though 14 cable car companies have been registered with the department, only Manakamana Darshan is operating cable car service in the country. The DoI has no information about the status of other companies.
Annapurna Cable Car Company, which aims to operate cable car service to Sarangkot, got registration certification from the department on June 12. Similarly, Ichchakamana Cable Car of Chitwan got the certificate in December last year.
